Guys, learn jewellery making doesn’t have to be difficult (I used to feel
it did). I’ll give you some advice right now. Look for a tutorial called
Jeweluxory Making (do a search on google). Seriously, that training program
has provide me the best resource about jewellery making.
Do you know about Maestro Mexican Silver Jewelry?
I keep having the issue of the piece that I am soldering sticking to my
charcoal block or solderite pad after I soldered it. Is there anything I
can do for this, or is that just something that happens? I notice that
happened to you in the video a little bit, but mine usually sticks
more….too much flux or boric acid mixture?? Also, what kind of cheap
wires can I use to solder with/what materials??

@trekranger i’ve been a jewellery desighner maker for 5 years now and i
still use one of them kitchen torches. if i had all the money in the world
i think i’d still use them. click one butten and boom, a hot, pinpoint
flame. i dont know why you’re isn’t hot enough though. some of them do have
very small flames.

You shouldn’t quench hot metal, esp. when you just soldered or welded it,
because it can crack the joint from the quick change in temperature, and it
might not fall apart completely till you’re wearing it and don’t notice it
fall off…

Try using sticky back paper and a copier. tip from a silver smith
@eutectics what about torches. i got mine from harbor freight and it just
does not seem too get hot enough. Does the torch you have give that much
more heat ?

oxidation can be removed by boiling the silver in salt water with aluminum
foil

@trekranger my advise is save up abit and then use silver. there are no
substitutes. most metals are white or grey but all exept silver, platinum
and palladium are ‘dirty’ to work with. by dirty i just mean hard (or
imposible) to work.

The pickle is not hydrochloric acid. That would give you a layer of silver
chloride on the silver. It is dilute sulphuric acid, or Sparex which is
much safer.

you should try using sheet solder, it is much easier
the flux is why in my jewelry store, we use wet flux in jars with the brush
attached to the lid…..so you dont get cancer….
